Scarecrows of the Port

CALLING ALL MUSICIANS & STREET PERFORMERS
For an evening of fun on
OCTOBER 17, 2008
to kick off Portsmouth’s
“SCARECROWS OF THE PORT”

Scarecrows of the Port is a joint venture of several Seacoast organizations.  In addition to the West End Business Association, representatives from the Greater Portsmouth Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Business Association, State Street Business Association, Deer Street Merchants Association and the Tenants Association at Pease are participating in the planning of the grassroots event.  The inaugural event is scheduled to coincide with the commissioning of the submarine USS New Hampshire at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.  The commissioning is expected to attract thousands of visitors to Portsmouth and greater Seacoast area.

Plans for the Scarecrows of the Port event include a scarecrow contest from 5-7 pm on October 17th, somewhere in the West End of town.  This will be followed by street performers from 7-9pm in various locations in the city. (THAT’S WHY WE NEED ALL YOU BUSKERS!)

Performers throughout the city, shops and restaurants open late, and scarecrows all around the city will add to the excitement of the commissioning and to fall in the seacoast.

Some of the locations under consideration for street performers include the corners of:

Deer and Market Street
Bow and Market
Daniel and Penhallow
State and Washington
State and Marcy
Pleasant and State
Chestnut and Congress
Vaughn Mall
Congress and Maplewood
Summer and Islington
Congress and Ladd

It is a great way to gain exposure in this small city with such a great tradition of music, art, culture and fun. So if you would like to join in the festivities, sign up for a corner and a time
(1 hour time slots, please.)
